Armed police called to ‘man stood on edge of balcony with machete’

Armed police surrounding a block of flats after a man reportedly ‘stood on a balcony edge with a machete’.

Officers swooped on the flat in Brierley Hill in the West Midlands at around 3pm.

Negotiators later bring the incident to a safe conclusion, reports BirminghamLive.

Officers say the man was seen standing on the wrong side of the railings.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Officers are currently outside a block of flats on Hill Street, Brierley Hill where a man is stood on the wrong side of the balcony railings armed with a machete.

Police have set up a cordon at the scene

Officers are trying to being the incident to a safe conclusion

“The road is cordoned off and police negotiators are at the scene to help bring the incident to a safe conclusion.”

A video from the scene showed a cordon in place and a huge police presence. 

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service were also in attendance.

Police later confirmed that the incident had been dealt with.

West Midlands Police wrote on Twitter: “A man has safely come down from a balcony after officers were called to Hill Street, Brierley Hill at 1pm today (1 August).

“We have assisted ambulance colleagues to take him to hospital to be checked over and the road has since re-opened.
